RIGHT! AND YOUR STYLE IS WELL TALKED ABOUT. DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE THINGS YOU ARE WEARING, OR ABOUT FASHION IN GENERAL? OR THERE IS NOT MUCH THOUGHT BEHIND YOUR LOOK(S)?

I don’t put much thought into it. I probably wear about the same 10 items in my closet. Some days I dress nicer then others, but its normally some nice slacks, a 2nd hand shirt, and some loafers. I do like a nice button down as well.

YOU’VE ALREADY MENTIONED YOUR SHOES… I REMEMBER LAST JANUARY, THE HUF STAND WAS THE HOTTEST THING AT BRIGHT TRADESHOW! EVERYBODY TALKED ABOUT YOUR SHOES, EVERYONE WANTED TO SEE WHAT YOU DID, IT WAS A MUCH ANTICIPATED THING. DO YOU EVER FEEL PRESSURED, DOES PEOPLE NOW IN GENERAL EXPECT BIGGER AND DIFFERENT THINGS FROM YOU? AND WHAT’S YOUR PROCESS OF DESIGNING LIKE?

No, because I’m not designing shoes for them. I’m designing shoes for myself, and if they like em great!, if not then thats great too. I’ve got 3 new shoes coming out in the next year or so. One unisex high top shoe so girls and guys can wear them, one slip on, and one high end driver (loafer) thats going to be more expensive than my shoe thats out now.
My designing process? I get inspiration from musicians, album covers, fashion brands, my friends and take that, then either start drawing something up with the shoe designers or start drawing something up myself. Then after a while of ehs and i don’t knows, finally get to the “alright, i like this one”.

YOUR HUF VIDEO (THE DYLAN –SHOE) COULD EASILY BE A FASHION VIDEO. THERE ARE THIS FASHION LOOKING SHOES, YOUR STYLE, MOOD, MUSIC AND GORGEOUS KATI NESCHER… VERY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE ARE USED TO; WHEN IT COMES TO SKATEBOARD SHOES, BUT VERY YOU. HOW DID YOU END UP DOING THAT?

I just did a lot of cocaine and was like “I’ve got it!” I’m only joking of course. I knew i wanted the film to be a bit on the darker side of things, thats why we filmed most of it in Berlin and in black and white . We actually knew the music before we even started to film the short. We were between this orchestral version of 2nd Waltz by Elliott Smith, performed by The Vitamin String Quartet and David Bowie’s – Some are. Obviously we went with Some Are. That song seemed more fitting at the end of the day when we put it to the skating. Marty Regal (the filmer and editor of the short) and i thought the song felt more powerful. Also went really well with the slow motion stuff.
I wanted a woman in the video to give it a certain romantic feel to it. And no one had ever had a naked woman in there skateboarding video before, not that i know of at least. Ekaterina was so lovely to agree to do it. She was a champ! Not only did she hang out and be filmed naked, she did it on her Birthday. I will forever owe her one. I think the boys were tripped out how comfortable she was just hanging out in the nude.
